“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”
Galatians 6:4-5 NLT
In the social media age, it’s easy and natural to compare ourselves to peers. Every time you open Facebook or Instagram, you see people you’re connected to having the time of their life. If you are going through a rough patch, or just feel that you don’t measure up with those around you this can be extremely difficult to deal with. These verses in Galatians remind us to not get distracted by looking at what other people have accomplished. To not measure ourselves against what other people are doing. We’re to put the blinders on, focus on what is in front of us and receive the satisfaction of a job well done. On the surface, you may think, what kind of satisfaction is that? It’s the only type of satisfaction that matters. Because if we complete the work God has set out for us to do, He sees it. And his approval is the only approval that truly matters.
“When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.”
2 Corinthians 10:18 NLT
There’s no reward in comparing yourself to others, there’s only a reward in accomplishing what God has set out for you to do. Focus on your work. Not the opinion of others. Do the work God has set out for you to do, because ultimately there is a blessing in it.
“For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”
Psalm 84:11 NLT
