3 Words that Describe You: Insightful, Easy going, LIT!!!

People would be surprised if they knew: I hate watching myself on TV (I know, then why be a TV reporter? lol), but I do it so I can critique myself and get better.

What is your most rewarding accomplishment? During grad school at Kent, I had a teacher who was extremely hard on me. One day he ripped a story I produced to shreds in front of the entire class. He gave me a C, which is a failing grade in grad school. But Lo and behold, I won an award for the same story through the Journalism School a few weeks later. The head of Cleveland 19 at that time happened to be at the award reception, and he thought my story was so good he aired it on the news the next day. That same man also hired me as an intern, which eventually led to my first on-air job. It was such a rewarding moment because it showed me that no matter who tries to stop you, if you work hard, God can and will weave the most amazing opportunities together.

How do you define success? In our world success usually equates with money and status. I’ve learned that success is not a title or an amount in the bank. Not saying either thing is bad (because Lord knows I gotta pay these student loans one day lol), but I see that it can be a delusion. There are many accounts of people, who had no status or fame that made an impact because they were doing what God told them to do. In my life I’m learning that success truly means obedience to God, as difficult as it may seem.

What is your passion/purpose and why? Still working on figuring this one out, but I know it has something to do with people.

If you could meet anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why? Michelle Obama. In my opinion, she’s the epitome of class and elegance. She’s been such a source of inspiration and motivation for me.

What is one thing you always wanted to try and never did? Be a backup dancer at a Beyonce concert. The thing about it is, I can’t really dance. But they look really cool and if I could, I would.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to relax. Work is very fast paced and I’m always at the mercy of the clock, so when I can do nothing and not glance at the time I know I’m winning. I love vacationing near beaches. Binge watching good shows. Watching videos of pugs (I’m obsessed and planning to get one soon). Watching Makeup tutorials on YouTube, and having good conversations with interesting people.

What was the last book that you read? I tend to read like 10 books at a time--Am I the only person who does that? But the last book I read part of was “Battlefield of the Mind,” by Joyce Meyer.

If you could change one world problem, what would it be and why? Self-Centeredness. I believe we would all be better off if everyone made a collective effort to think of others and show compassion on a daily basis.

What advice do you have for other Melaninated Queens out there? Work Hard, pray, slay, stay out the way, and don’t compare yourself to other people! :)
